ah let's see. Mother's day was nice. no fruit baskets and that's always a plus. kevin suggested buying me the bike i wanted last year or a new flat screen television downstairs, but because money is tight and those are not things we really need i refused and told him i would just like the house cleaned and for us to replace the deck wood this year. we have to do the deck because so many boards are rotted it's not safe to go out there any more. and so, he also used our old shampooer to clean the family room carpet. so, i feel good about that. although the cleaning seemed to have disturbed every spider in the house and i've spent 3 days now vacuuming spiders every 10 minutes. i hope i get them all.
and we have some bad happenings with our one remaining parakeet, domino. we noticed saturday that his left eye was swollen so i brought him to the vet yesterday. the prognosis isn't good. the vet says it's either a tumor in which case the attempt of surgically trying to remove it would likely kill him, or it's an abscess. the infection could be treated with antibiotics, but it might come back. if it comes back we could try to remove it, but that would be the same as trying to remove the tumor and likely the little guy would not survive the anesthesia or surgery. so we're treating him with antibiotics and hoping for the best now. he doesn't seem to be suffering but we may not have him much longer.
additionally it was Oscar's heart worm check day yesterday and i should have insisted the tech let me hold him like i did last year. but she insisted instead that she take him on her own and within 10 minutes was back to get me to help. by then Oscar was in a serious panic and it took the tech, me and a vet and a blanket to get him muzzled and held enough to draw the blood. poor little guy. he's a fighter too. next year i have to remember to insist that they just let me hold him. he's calmer that way.
