through the weekend

brief update:

on thursday night connie and i picked up the pop up camper and stayed up late shopping and cleaning it and getting it ready for friday's 1 day camping trip. friday after picking abby up from zoo camp we loaded it up and went to winsted for the higher ground music festival. it was only in the mid 80s, but there was zero shade and between setting up the camper and then standing in the sun to watch Sanctus Real, we were way too hot. the performance was great, as expected, but we were just a bit too uncomfortable which made for whiny kids and whiny me.

we snacked in the camper for dinner and used clorox wipes to take sort of a sponge bath because there was really no running water. i'm not the roughing it kind of girl. but we were clean enough to get some sleep and reasonably comfortable in the camper.

the really nice thing about a Christian music festival is that we felt safe, and all the other festival goers were really quite considerate. we could hear Casting Crowns perform from our camper and after the show was over people talked in quiet voices as they returned to their campsites and all was quiet by 11:30pm.

on saturday we put everything away and left the camper at the campground while we went to explore winsted. we used to visit there every summer when we were kids as two families in our neighborhood were from there and had cabins on Lake Mary. we even used to be in the Winsock Days parade with a homemade float. we found the lake and cabin and had an enjoyable time poking around. after lunch, we went home for real showers!!

sadly, i got another killer migraine yesterday so i'm wearing my glasses again today (but i'm not sure that's the problem since i wasn't reading anything all weekend...) and i have an appointment to talk to my doctor about them more next week.

so, all in all the weekend was probably more fun than i've been able to describe here, but the ending just kind of left me with the less enthusiastic impression.
