Twas the week before Christmas

and i had to fire someone today.

it was not a good thing. mostly because i disagreed with the reason for the termination, but i can support the decision. the biggest reason was that our company, like so many others, is struggling financially and December is going to be a tough month. not enough income to cover expenses. So my boss has been asking people to cut hours and us to cut costs.

we didn't really want to lay anyone off because that's a long term tactic for a short term problem, but there is this one employee who is pretty decent at what he does, but was a challenge to lead. not for me, i was fine, but his supervisor couldn't handle him. inexperienced supervisor leading a challenging person and he was creating too many battles. so, we laid him off.

it just sucks that it's so close to the holidays too. so, i'm praying for him today that this closed door opens and new and amazing place for him, and that it happens quickly.

i'm working a very long day with a closing shift at Macy's tonight. And trying to stay warm because like much of the country, it's very cold here this week. Poor Oscar does not want to go outside.
