well, after the first day being SO hard on abby, it got MUCH better. kevin was home with her on friday and there were no tears. not saturday or sunday either. she said she was sad, and i said it's ok to be sad but not go to pieces. so, i'm happy to say she made the best of it.
of course i feel guilty - all moms do. it's like i'm putting money ahead of my child. but, the cold facts are that my salary is set and limited and there are no raises in the near future. i'm lucky the job doesn't get eliminated altogether. and kevin has sold ZERO cars in the last 10 days. considering that was month end when it should be the busiest, that's very worrisome. yes, if it keeps up he will have to get a part time job too. in the meantime i've done lots of meals heavy on rice before and we'll just tighten up the best we can.
and i'm finding my pt job fun. i bet i will lose weight since i run around 100% of the time. for example on saturday i worked from 1130-8 and was required to log out for a 30 minute break. other than that, i was walking fast constantly getting shoes from the back and bringing them out and putting shoes back in boxes and walking them back to their shelves. my legs were really sore and it's very warm in my department so it was a definite workout.
so yesterday i worked 1-7 and wore a pedometer. i checked it around 5 and i had over 11,000 steps! that's about 2750 steps an hour. since it was a shorter shift, there was no break at all. i googled it and an average person walks a mile in 2000 steps. so i figure i walked at least 6 miles yesterday and 8 miles on saturday!
and, i sold a TON of shoes yesterday. i didn't even get credit for the first hour or so because i was too busy and my employee number wasn't at the register, but at the first chance i got i wrote it down and hopefully my co workers gave me credit when they should have. my sales goal set by macy's was $515 and i did over $1100. i have no idea how commission is calculated, so i hope it's a nice surprise!
