summer doldrums

well, i guess i could call it that if it actually felt like summer here. it's more like the never ending winter into the never ending spring. at least it's not snowing.

but, nothing very interesting has been going on to blog about.

abby had her last softball game last night and it was a fun season. a learning season really. the girls got 6 strikes before they were out and the coaches play pitcher and catcher. but abby learned to get a hit every time she was at bat on the 2nd or third pitch. she swings slowly so her hits don't make it to the outfield, but she gets on base because none of the teams field particularly well. usually the player who gets the ball bobbles it a bit before deciding to overthrow it to some base player. outs were rare, but they did learn to get a few by the end of the season. most importantly abby had a great time and wants to play again next year.

swimming season kind of started last weekend with the pool opening, but even though the pool is heated to be warm enough to swim, i'm not interested in swimming when i'm wearing long pants and a sweatshirt. abby has been swimming though, and spent several hours in the pool yesterday. i was impressed that she remembered how to dive and her first dive in was as good as her last dive last year.

we're also walking or biking to my parent's house whenever it's not raining and we biked to dairy queen last thursday night. that was particularly nice because josie was having a sleep over so she rode along on her bike with abby, i had oscar in the basket on my bike and my dad and kevin rode the tandem bike. it was good to have adults in the front and back of the line for security when we had to cross busy streets. and even though i'm trying to avoid junk food, i felt like i earned a small cone by biking there and back for it.

so nothing exciting going on, but it's pleasant enough anyway.
