teaching responsibility

so i just got off the 5th phone call in a row from a sobbing abby. it seems she was supposed to bring back her library books earlier, but was given a final deadline of today. she forgot them. she remembered in the car and i called kevin who did drop them off today, but her teacher (who we love!) said that because they were her responsibility and they weren't there this morning abby will miss 10 minutes of track and field day tomorrow.

abby wants me to call her teacher to get her out of it. i said no. if her teacher thinks she needs to be responsible, well then i have to back that too. it breaks my heart, but here we go. i think the 10 minutes will be a good lesson.

wow, i am not surprised she asked you to call and over rule the teachers recommendation for disciplinary action. just the jolt she needs to realize that you can't save her from the world.

Snip....that's one string gone

no, i'm not surprised either and so it was a good learning lesson about responsibility and respect for authority. if this were the beginning of the school year, i might take the time to discuss it with mrs andrews, but now at the end of the year i've learned that i very much honor and respect mrs andrews as a leader and educator and i value her judgement. if she thinks a 10 minute penalty is called for, then i support that.
i am though, completely baffled by my mom. {shakes head sadly}
